My project titled ‘Automatism’ seeks to portray the exploration of my interests as a practising artist, and my philosophies regarding the pedagogy of Art & Design as a teacher.

In considering the substance of Art & Design education I sought to express its ability to be proficiently exploited to communicate unrestrained from the limitations of a single form of language; this extends beyond the expressions available to other subjects and requires both the sensory (practical) and the conceptual (analytical) languages of expression in order to function. At its essence, realising the potential of communication ‘does not reside solely within a sentence or picture’ (Davis, 2003), and through Art, can be meta-communicatively expressed, reactively, unconsciously and, arguably, more organically.
